The purpose of the Finnish Veterinary Association is to act as a link between its members; to promote veterinary science and the practice of veterinary medicine in Finland; and to care for the professional, societal, commercial and social interests of veterinarians as well as their joint aspirations.

The Finnish Veterinary Association engages in publishing; supports research in veterinary science; and organizes talks, lectures and other educational events and annual veterinary seminars. It puts forward proposals on subjects related to veterinary science and represents its members in contacts with other professional organizations and with veterinary associations abroad.

The association further acts as a negotiating body on veterinary, professional, societal, commercial and social issues. It also engages in other activities that further its members' interests and promote their joint aspirations.

The association was established in 1892.
